The White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) is located in the Tularosa Basin of southern New Mexico. The headquarters area is 20 miles east of Las Cruces, NM and 45 miles north of El Paso, TX. At almost 3200 square miles, WSMR is the largest military installation in the United States.
Directions from El Paso Airport:
*From the El Paso airport, turn right on Airway Blvd.
*At the second stoplight, turn right on Airport Rd., which becomes Fred Wilson Blvd.
*Immediately after the Fred Wilson overpass, turn right and enter Hwy 54 (on-ramp on the left). Continue on Hwy 54 and exit on Martin Luther King Jr, Blvd. (exit 31).
*Turn left on MLK Jr Blvd and follow the signs that direct you to White Sands Missile Range. It is approximately 34 miles from this point to the El Paso gate entrance to the WSMR main post area.
*After the cattle guard, the speed limit drops from 65mph to 55mph.
*At the second yellow flashing light, the road makes a 90-degree turn. The speed limit will now be 15mph. Stay on the highway, and the mountains will now be on your left-hand side.
From Las Cruces:
*From I-25, take Hwy 70 East toward Alamogordo (Hwy 70 is also called Main St.)
*Continue on Hwy 70 for approximately 25 miles over the San Augustine Pass. Exit just after mile marker 169.
*Turn right on Owen Road.
*The Las Cruces/Alamogordo main post gate is approximately 3 miles.
To obtain a vehicle security pass, provide a driver's license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance at the gate.
